Our Devotion to the Ocean
Our Devotion to the Ocean
As a sea kayak guiding business, we have a responsibility to operate in a sustainable manner
and ensure that our activities do not harm the environment. This is our pledge:
To Follow the Leave No Trace Principles +
We encourage our clients to follow the Leave No Trace principles, which include minimising our impact on the environment and leaving the area in the same or better condition than we found it.
To use Eco-Friendly Equipment +
We endeavour to use eco-friendly equipment whenever possible such as non-toxic sunscreen and as much recycled material as possible. We are also researching using kayaks made from environmentally sustainable materials.
To Reduce Waste +
We have implemented waste reduction practices such as using reusable bags, composting, and recycling. We encourage our clients to bring reusable containers and utensils.
To Prevent Plastic Pollution +
We carry out beach cleans whenever we are out journeying on our coastline. This might be a dedicated day or just a lunch break wander. Every little helps.
To Respect Wildlife +
As sea kayak guides, we have a responsibility to protect the wildlife and habitats we visit. We do everything in our power to ensure our clients do not disturb or harm wildlife, and follow local regulations for wildlife observation. We are members of the Pembrokeshire Outdoor Charter group and several of our guides are WISE accredited adventure guides. We have close working relationships with the wardens on the globally significant Islands of Skomer, Ramsey, Skokholm and the Bishops and Clerks.
To Educate +
We endeavour to share as much information about environmental considerations/restrictions with the paddling/recreational community as possible whilst working and playing on the sea. We do this through informal discussions and being ambassadors for best practice.
To Participate in Local Conservation +
We Support numerous local conservation efforts by participating in beach clean-ups, donating to local conservation organisations, and volunteering with local environmental groups (we have participated in numerous wildlife surveys around Skomer and elsewhere whilst contributing to citizen science projects regularly).
To Promote Sustainable Transport +
Encourage our clients to use sustainable transport options to get to our kayak tour location. We are also considering using hybrid or electric vehicles for our business operations.
To Strive for Net Zero Carbon +
At sea kayak guides we have signed up to Protect our Winters (POW). POW offers advice for individuals and businesses to become more environmentally sustainable and to form a plan to become net zero in the future.
To Stand Up Against Sewage +
We are and have been paid up members of Surfers against sewage for decades. This organisation has been at the forefront of environmental activism and lobbying for clean seas and rivers.
By taking these steps, we are demonstrating a keen commitment to environmental responsibility and helping protect the marine environment for future generations.
We are continuously refining our environmental responsibility. If you have any suggestions or feedback, we are always happy to hear it.
